MENA Ministerial Conference, Marrakech

EALL 22, 23 November 2009
The MENA-OECD Ministerial Conference brought together ministers of Investment and Public Governance to discuss strategic responses to the current global economic crisis and ways to mitigate negative growth, unemployment and the effect on public services. The conference on 22 and 23 November in Marrakesh was held under the High Patronage of the King of Mohammed VI of Morocco,

The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) programme is one of the programmes of the OECD. The aim of the programme is to stimulate economic development in this region in a number of areas. Enhancing the rule of law is one of the pillars of the MENA programme. This requires sound law-making processes and institutional systems that deliver justice and ensure an equitable distribution of rights. Governance frameworks are at the core of the rule of law. Supporting the quality of legislation, advancing law-drafting capacities in the MENA countries and improving the regulatory environment are major policy concerns for MENA and OECD countries. During the conference, Chris Moll presented the EALL within this framework as a viable expert partner that supports ongoing and future reform initiatives in MENA countries.
